Are you experiencing this? You wish to do a task or rather you are asked to do an activity, but you feel like delaying it and a common thought creeps up: “I shall do it tomorrow”. And when tomorrow comes, then it goes further to next day.If reasoned about it, for some it would be “I was busy” still for others it may be a “skip of the day”.

For students, it’s often related to academic work. Some delay in the projects/assignments till the last day, while for some it’s a common statement “ I will do it !!!” , But ultimately it doesn’t happen and days pass off!!

If the above happens with you frequently, then you are heading towards being a procrastinator. In simple words, procrastination is putting things of intentionally or habitually. Psychologically it’s important to understand why people procrastinate. The key reasons behind it could be seeking perfectionism, fear of failure, or fear of criticism.

Also, observed parents tend to tag their kids as being lazy. It’s important to note lazy people, simply don’t do anything and are just fine with it. But procrastinators are the ones who wish to do but somehow they can’t force themselves to start it.

We need to understand what best can be done to get rid of this issue as it does affect our day to day affairs, thus leading to lack of achieving the best in life. In compliance with the above it’s critical to proactively develop strategies to prevent procrastination.

    1. Start your day with clarity. Plan the day in advance. This helps you to end up being productive throughout the day
    2. Goal setting is the key to success. Ensure you set up your immediate goals, followed by short term, and long term goals.
    3. Make to do list .This will help you to set your priorities and as well you can keep a track of what’s important and what’s not important.
    4. Keep your work place neat and clean. This has a psychological impact on the mind and helps you to remain motivated and charged up.
    5. Take frequent breaks while you are working. This will help you to keep yourself fresh and be mentally positive.
    6. Acceptance is the key. So in adverse situations accepting the situation and giving a best try should be your thought process.
    7. There are times when we don’t feel like doing a task due to lack of confidence. But then remind yourself with a simple thumb rule nobody can be prefect.
    8. Keep a check on your health. Eat well, maintain a sleeping cycle and of course, this helps you to keep up your energy level.
    9. Set specific routines for yourself. This will help you to keep yourself motivated and conditioned to do a task at a particular time.
    10. Lastly, don’t forget to reward yourself once you break out from the habit of procrastination.

So truly said ‘No one will want a Degree in Procrastination’, so go ahead and follow the tips and give your best to come out of it as early as possible.
